The Duties of Members

During the ceremony of Installation of Officers, we all listen attentively to each one of the officer’s duties and responsibilities. From the Worshipful Master who resides in the East, to the Wardens, Stewards, Deacons, Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, Tyler, Banquet Steward to the Trustees, the Installing Officer explains their duties and obligations. What is missing from this picture? Let me explain. What are missing from this picture are the Duties and Responsibilities of members listed below.
To attend the communications of the Lodge.
To serve on all committees when appointed.
To vote upon all applications of candidates, if present.
To obey the moral law and laws of the country in which he lives.
To manifest a charitable disposition toward all men, but especially, toward his brethren.
To obey and support the landmarks, the edicts of the Grand Lodge, and the By-Laws of his Lodge.
To obey the Master, of the Lodge.
To avoid all prejudice of sect or politics.
To maintain secrecy, and to perfect himself in the ritual.
To instruct uniformed Brethren, and guard them against a breach of fidelity.
To guard by investigation and by ballot, against the admission of improper candidates.
To act for the best interest of the Lodge and for the good of the fraternity in general.
To keep and perform his Masonic obligations, and to act in and out of the Lodge, according to Masonic principles.
