The Pencil

While browsing through a Masonic publication, I came upon this interesting piece of Masonic Information.

Most commonly, in the American Masonic jurisdictions, our symbols are most commonly used. In foreign jurisdictions, such as Scotland and England, these symbols may differ. The one symbol used in foreign jurisdictions that particularly caught my eye, was the pencil.

The pencil, teaches that the Grand Architect of the Universe observes and records our thoughts, words and actions, and that someday we will be held accountable for that record. The pencil is also a working tool of the Master Mason Degree both in Scottish and English rituals.

It certainly makes sense my Brothers that our thoughts, words and actions, are being recorded by the Grand Architect of the Universe, and, in so doing, they will be reviewed as we enter that Celestial Lodge on High.

Remember my Brothers, one conclusion is inescapable; as each pencil has an eraser on one end, our actions can be removed or changed over the course of our lifetime, but that radiant ray of knowledge we cast, can never be erased.
